Serum albumin is a reliable prognostic indicator for liver disease. Oxidative damage of albumin is associated with advanced liver disease.

Albumin from sheep serum has been used in the quantitative determination of different albumin species by albumin blue580 fluorescence assay. It has also been used in perfusion solutions.
