Human growth hormone (HGH), also called somatotropin, is a peptide hormone that consists of a long single chain of amino acids. It is naturally secreted by somatotropic cells in the anterior pituitary gland of the human body.

It has also been used as a supplement in biliary differentiation medium (BDM) for differentiation of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs)/ human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs)-derived hepatoblasts.

HGH modifies a variety of physiological functions by stimulating the expression of insulin-like growth factor I and increases calcium retention and bone density.
