USDA FSIS STEC Guidance Implementation

WEBINAR

On February 1, 2023 USDA FSIS expanded verification testing for the "Big 6" non-O157 STEC into a wider variety of beef products. This highlights the need for accurate testing solutions that detect STEC groups regulated by the USDA. This panel discussion will provide the most recent updates to governmental actions and industry practices regarding the requirements of STEC testing of raw meat products. We will provide a comparative landscape of currently available testing solutions for both manufacturers and third-party testing labs. A comparison will be provided against current the current ISO method and EU regulations. The Assurance® GDS system will be introduced as a solution which couples the accurate detection of Top 7 STEC with molecular identification of the specific serogroup present in positive samples. We present sample preparation steps that differentiate the assay and enable it to reduce false positive results relative to reference PCR methods.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • USDA FSIS expanded verification testing for the "Big 6" non-O157 STEC into a wider variety of beef products as of February 1, 2023
  • Brief overview of the impact of EU regulations for STEC from 2022 onwards and key takeaways
  • Accurate testing solutions are needed that detect all 7 STEC groups regulated by the USDA
  • Updates on governmental actions and industry practices regarding STEC testing requirements and learnings from the European market that can provide insights for North America
  • We will unpack the technical challenges of STEC testing and explore different aspects of pathogen testing solutions
