Application

Sodium tetraborate decahydrate has been used:
  • as a buffer component in biotinylation assay.[1]
  • in preparation of methylene blue solution for histological staining.[2]
  • as a component of trace metal solution for medium supplementation.[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Sodium tetraborate decahydrate also called borax.[4] Guar gum based gels crosslinked by borax are effective for wastewater treatment.[5] Borax is used in the preparation of detergents and cosmetics. Borax elicits toxicity in the brain especially in aquatic organisms resulting in edema and congestion.[6]

Children with severe sepsis are known to have altered zinc homeostasis and decreased circulating zinc levels, suggesting a role for zinc supplementation to improve outcomes. We tested the hypothesis that zinc supplementation would improve survival in a juvenile model of

Commonly used synthetic dietary emulsifiers, including carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and polysorbate-80 (P80), promote intestinal inflammation. Increased fruit consumption is associated with reduced risk of colitis. It has been investigated whether the anti-colitic effects of the polyphenol-rich aronia berry (Aronia mitschurinii 'Viking') are mediated through Th17 and Treg. Colitis is induced in recombinase activating gene-1 deficient
