Description

General description

1-Butanol is a clear, colorless alcohol that can be used for the removal of ethidium bromide from DNA purified by CsCl gradient ultracentrifugation. It is also suitable for use in the concentration of dilute nucleic acid solutions by repeated extractions, thus improving recovery by ethanol precipitation.

Application

1-Butanol has been used:

• in the derivatization process for measuring methylated arginine levels in blood samples
• in liquid-chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis of lysine modifications by deacetylase CobB
• in the extraction of plant material from Vigna unguiculata
• to extract and purify amplified human DNA samples before further amplification by PCR followed by sequencing
