Gene Information

General description

Anti-OCT3 Antibody detects endogenous levels of total OCT3 protein.
Octamer-binding transcription factor 3 (OCT3)/OCT4 is encoded by the gene spanning 1420 bases of genomic DNA mapped to human chromosome 6p21.33. OCT3/OCT4 is a transcription factor that belongs to the transcription Pit-Oct-Unc (POU)family. This protein contains a POU-specific homeodomain and DNA-binding domain. Anti-OCT3 antibody detects endogenous levels of total OCT3 protein.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human OCT3.

Immunogen Range: 191-240

Application

Anti-OCT3 antibody produced in rabbit may be used in immunohistochemistry at 1:100 dilution and immunoblot at 1:1000 dilution.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Octamer-binding transcription factor 3 (OCT3)/OCT4 plays a vital role in the self-renewal and pluripotency of embryonic stem cells. It is involved in the regulation of embryonic development and cell fate determination. Overexpression of OCT4 gene aids in the progression of various types of human cancers by increasing tumorigenicity and enhancing resistance to chemotherapeutics. OCT4 expression acts as a potential cancer diagnosis and prognosis biomarker. Reduced expression of the OCT4 gene suppresses the growth of pancreatic cancer cells by blocking the AKT pathway. Therefore, OCT4 protein may be used as an effective therapeutic target for pancreatic cancer treatment.
