General description
Allylamine hydrochloride is a hydrophilic allyl monomer with double bond that allows for polymerization reactions, leading to the formation of poly(allylamine) and other copolymers. These polymers exhibit excellent film-forming properties, mechanical strength, and flexibility. Its amino groups can facilitate interactions with various biological molecules, including proteins and nucleic acids, enhancing biocompatibility.
Application
Allylamine hydrochloride can be used :
- As a monomer to synthesize poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) by bulk polymerization. PAH is widely used in the field of drug delivery, gene delivery, surface coatings and nanoparticle stabilization owing to its cationic nature, biocompatibility, water solubility and functionalization.
- As a precursor to synthesize amphiphilic allylamine copolymers to fabricate biodegradable hydrogels. The hydrophilic nature of allylamine hydrochloride contributes to the hydrogel′s ability to retain water which is crucial for drug delivery, wound healing, and tissue engineering.
