General description
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is a chlorinated acetic acid. It is one of the major metabolites of trichloroethylene (TCE).
Application
Traditionally used to precipitate protein. Has been used to determine protein concentration by quantitative precipitation. Used as decalcifier and fixative in microscopy.
Trichloroacetic acid may be used in the following studies:
10% Trichloroacetic acid may be employed for the preparation of radioactive proteins.
- Estimation of phosphorus in various biological samples (serum, urine and stool ash solutions).
- Elimination of acid-soluble and lipid phosphorous during the determination of deoxyribonucleic acid, ribonucleic acid and phosphoproteins in animal tissues.
- Preparation of 2-methyl-4-nitroanilinium trichloroacetate trichloroacetic acid (2M4NATCA) crystals.
10% Trichloroacetic acid may be employed for the preparation of radioactive proteins.
Other Notes
Protein denaturant.
