General description

Diglycolic anhydride (DGA) is derived from diglycolic acid, known for its ability to form polyesters and polyamides. DGA exhibits a low molecular weight and a high reactivity with hydroxyl and amine groups, making it a valuable intermediate in polymer chemistry. It can facilitate the formation of cross-linked networks, improving the mechanical properties of the resulting polymer.

Application

Diglycolic anhydride can be used:
  • As a building block to synthesize bio-based polyester and poly(ester amide)s with excellent thermal stability and good solubility in organic solvents.
  • To functionalize polyethylene terephthalate(PET) nanofibers for rare earth elements recovery. The addition of DGA enhances metal adsorption due to its rapid binding kinetics and high selectivity for recovering rare earth elements ions from aqueous solutions.
  • As a precursor to fabricate degradable polyester network coatings for medical devices to prevent biofouling of surfaces.
