General description
α-Carotene is a tetraterpenoid pigment that belongs to the group of carotenoids. Along with β-carotene, it is regarded as a precursor to vitamin A and is responsible for the orange-red color of fruits and vegetables. It is also known to show anti-oxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties.
Application
The analytical standards can also be used as follows:
- Simultaneous quantification of five carotenoids and two chlorophylls from soybean flour samples by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method combined with UV-Vis detector
- Profiling of carotenoids and their isomers in different plant tissue samples by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a C30 column and photodiode array (PDA) detection
- Development and validation of a high-performance liquid chromatography-UV/Vis detection method for the determination of four carotenoids— α-carotene, β-carotene, α-cryptoxanthin, and β-cryptoxanthin, in oil obtained from P. conoideus
- Multi-residue determination of carotenoids in two algal species, isolated from saline water by HPLC coupled with a photodiode array detector
- Ultra-high performance supercritical fluid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPSFC-MS) method-based quantitative analysis of carotenoids in microalgae and rosehip extract samples
