General description
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is an important metabolic product of trichloroethylene (TCE) metabolism.
Application
Traditionally used to precipitate protein. Has been used to determine protein concentration by quantitative precipitation. Used as decalcifier and fixative in microscopy.
Trichloroacetic acid has been used:
- for protein precipitation
- as a component in the extract solution used for the measurement of malondialdehyde and glutathione
- to precipitate the transfected and treated cells in [3H]-thymidine incorporation assay
Biochem/physiol Actions
TCA might act as a carcinogen, targeting liver. It might be used as an acid decalcifying agent. TCA helps in nuclear staining.
