General description
Calcium carbonate is an inorganic compound that is sparingly soluble in water but highly soluble in dilute acids. It plays a crucial role in material science, particularly in the development of solar cells, batteries, and supercapacitors. In solar cell, it acts as a precursor material for the perovskite layer, enhancing the stability and performance of perovskite solar cells. Additionally, calcium carbonate is utilized in electrode production, serving as a conductive additive in cathode or anode materials, thus improving overall battery performance and durability.
Application
Calcium carbonate can be used as:
- A template, graphitization catalyst, and activating agent in the green synthesis of porous graphitic carbons from coal tar pitch for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
- A raw material to synthesize calcium titanate (CaTiO3) perovskite material through sintering with titanium oxide (TiO2) by the sol-gel method. Calcium titanate can be used to create large-scale, low-cost, and sustainable solar cells.
- A catalyst supports for improving the performance and durability of fuel cells, thereby contributing to the advancement of clean energy technologies.
