General description

Our lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) electrode sheet is a ready-to-use cathode designed for lithium-ion battery research. The LMFP cathode film is 80 µm thick, single-sided, and applied to a 16 µm thick aluminum foil current collector measuring 5 × 10 inches (127 mm × 254 mm). The composition consists of 88% lithium iron phosphate (LFP), 4% Poly(vinylidene fluoride) [PVDF], and 8% carbon black. The active material, olivine LiMnxFe1−xPO4, is a well-studied cathode material known for its excellent cycling stability.

Application

Our lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) electrode serves as a cathode in lithium-ion battery research. It is cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and cobalt-free. Compared to lithium iron phosphate (LFP), LMFP boasts a nearly 20% higher energy density due to its higher nominal voltage (3.8 V for LMFP vs. 3.2 V for LFP). Moreover, LMFP offers high specific capacity (>150 mAh/g) and a longer cycle life compared to most other lithium-ion chemistries. LMFP cells experience a slower rate of capacity loss and greater calendar-life than other lithium-ion battery chemistries, such as layered oxides cathodes NMC and LCO. Due to its low cost, low toxicity, stability, and reliable performance, LMFP-based batteries are increasingly applied in vehicle and backup power applications.
