General description

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is an inorganic base. It participates in the oxidation of glycerol catalyzed by Au/charcoal or Au/graphite.[1] It also participates in solvent-free aldol condensation reaction.[2]

Application

Sodium hydroxide may be employed for the direct oxidation of sodium borohydride, which was investigated by cyclic and linear voltammetry, chronoamperometry and chronopotentiometry.[3] It may be used to compose citrate buffer and borate buffers.[4]
It may be used in the synthesis of following compounds:[5]
  • alkylaryl amidosulfobetaines
  • (3-[ 4-teroctylphenoxyethoxyethoxyethyl] dimethylammonio propane sulfonate (XOSB)
  • trisulfobetaines (TriSBn)
