General description
Lectin from Dolichos biflorus (horse gram) is a heterotetrameric glycoprotein with a molecular mass of around 113 kDa. Dolichos biflorus agglutinin (DBA) is specific for terminal α-linked N-acetyl-D-galactosamine (GalNAc). It is a dietary lectin.
Application
Lectin from Dolichos biflorus (horse gram) has been used:
- to characterize mouse uterine natural killer (uNK) cells
- in double staining with lectins to localize nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activation
- as a species-specific gonocyte marker for the determination of donor cell colonization
- to label undifferentiated spermatogonia/cat testicular tissue
Biochem/physiol Actions
DBA has anti-A1 human blood group specificity, useful for distinguishing between A1 and A2 blood types. DBA has strong anti-Cad activity, and has an affinity for terminal N-acetyl-α-D-galactosaminyl residues. Conjugates are prepared from affinity purified lectin.
Dolichos biflorus agglutinin (DBA) possesses binding activity for which it is used as a marker binucleate cells and can indicate the state of their differentiation. It serves as a label for primordial germ cells (PGCs), gonocytes, pre-spermatogonia and spermatogonia.
