Target description

Protein moonraker (UniProt: Q2KHM9; also known as MNR, OFD1- and FOPNL-interacting protein ) is encoded by the KIAA0753 (also known as MNR, OFIP) gene (Gene ID: 9851) in human. KIAA0753 is one of the key regulators of mother centriole function, essential for normal vertebrate development, Hedgehog signaling, and ciliogenesis. I also plays a role in microtubule stabilization. KIAA0753 with OFD1 and CEP90 forms an evolutionarily conserved complex, named DISCO (distal centriole complex). DISCO acts at the distal centriole and by restraining centriole length it supports ciliogenesis and assembling distal appendages. Mutations in KIAA0753 have been implicated in ciliopathies. These include conditions such as skeletal dysplasia, Joubert and Orofaciodigital (OFD) syndrome. (Ref.: Kumar, D., et al. (2021). J Cell Biol. 220(9):e202011133)
