General description

PIPES (1,4-Piperazinediethanesulfonic acid) is a zwitterionic buffer. It is a stable buffer and is used majorly in fixation solutions. PIPES is inert towards enzymatic and non-enzymatic reactions. However, it generates artefacts in transmission electron microscope imaging.[1]

Application

PIPES (1,4-Piperazinediethanesulfonic acid) dipotassium salt has been used as buffer for fluorescence polarization microscopy studies of kinesin-microtubule binding.[2] It is suitable for use as a component of PHEM buffer ([K-PIPES], HEPES, EGTA, and MgSO4) used during rinsing and blocking steps in immunofluorescence imaging of HeLa cells.[3] It is also suitable for use as buffer for purification of tubulin.[4]

Even though combined anti-retroviral therapy (cART) dramatically improves patient survival, they remain at a higher risk of being afflicted with non-infectious complications such as cardiovascular disease (CVD). This increased risk is linked to persistent inflammation and chronic immune activation. In

Interleukin-12 (IL-12) is an important cytokine for the immunomodulatory effects of lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Using murine immune cells, we previously reported that the RNA of Enterococcus faecalis EC-12, a LAB strain exerting probiotic-like beneficial effects, is the major IL-12-inducing
