Biochem/physiol Actions
FEM1A (fem-1 homolog A) protein is involved in the regulation of stem-loop binding protein, that is associated with mRNA cleavage, translation and degradation. FEM1A is involved in anti-inflammatory signaling by interacting with prostaglandin E2 subtype E4 receptors. FEM1A is associated with the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome. Studies show that FEM1A gene is downegulated in rhabdomyosarcoma.

FEM1A, FEM1B, and FEM1C are evolutionarily-conserved VHL-box proteins, the substrate recognition subunits of CUL2-RING E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes. Here, we report that FEM1 proteins are ancient regulators of Stem-Loop Binding Protein (SLBP), a conserved protein that interacts with the stem

Human homologs (FEM1A, FEM1B, FEM1C) of nematode sex determination genes are candidate genes for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We previously identified a FEM1A mutation (H500Y) in a woman with PCOS; FEM1B has been implicated in insulin secretion. Women with and
