General description
Research area: Immunology & cytokines
Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) is a naturally occurring inflammatory inhibitor protein. IL-1Ra is produced by corneal epithelial cells, monocytes, neutrophils, macrophages, and fibroblasts. Recombinant human IL-1Ra is a 17.2kDa protein consisting of 153 amino acid residues.

Application
Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) human has been used:
- to study the role of interleukin (IL)-1β receptor in cell senescence induced by doxorubicin
- to block the IL-1β binding to its receptor
- to understand the role of autocrine interleukin-1β (IL-1β) signaling downstream of cl- in RPS27 modulation
Biochem/physiol Actions
Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) inhibits the activity of IL-1α and IL-1β by competitively blocking binding to their type I and type II receptors. Therapeutically, IL-1RA may help in the treatment of sepsis, cachexia, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic myelogenous leukemia, asthma, psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Physical form
Lyophilized from 20 mM Tris, pH 8.0.
Reconstitution
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.
