Indole is the primary product of tryptophan breakdown by tryptophanase. Structurally, it is characterized by a benzene ring fused to a pyrrole ring, containing a five-membered nitrogen-containing ring. This simple structure forms the core of a vast array of natural and synthetic compounds with a wide range of biological activities. In bacteria, indole is a critical signaling molecule, produced as a metabolite during the breakdown of the amino acid tryptophan. It plays a pivotal role in bacterial behavior, influencing biofilm formation, spore germination, and the expression of virulence factors. 원리

The indole assay kit is based on a modified version of Ehlrich′s and Kovac′s reagents, which reacts with indole to produce a colored compound at 565 nm. The intensity of this colored compound is directly proportional to the indole in the sample. Linear detection range from 3 to 100 μM indole in 96-well plate assay.
